Production of the insanely powerful 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat may be limited to only 1,200 units. That’s the word from Edmunds, citing a Chrysler Group person that did not want to be identified. Although the automaker has yet to confirm the said number, we won’t be surprised if this report turns out to be true. And for more than one reason.
First of all, it’s only natural for such a powerful machine to come available in limited quantities. The Hellcat is no regular Challenger and we don’t expect Dodge to keep it in production until the current generation model is phased out. At least not as a regular production car. Selling 1,200 examples each year for the next two to three years would make more sense. Sure, demand will surpass production and Dodge will have a lot of unhappy customers to deal with, but that’s what makes a muscle car like the Hellcat special.
Secondly, a limited run would bring more bad news to customers. As Hellcats will start disappearing from dealer preorder “lots,” the $60,990 sticker (delivery included) will blow through the roof. Dealers win, Dodge wins, and customers will just have to fork more cash for the privilege of owning 707 horses and 650 pound-feet of torque in the shape of a Challenger.

There was plenty of new and interesting things to climb the famous hill at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this year, but perhaps nothing else hits closer to home than the iconic American pony car in its latest iteration; the 2015 Ford Mustang. With it still months away from hitting dealer showrooms and with no official reviews gracing the glossy pages of magazines or the Interwebz, the Mustang is still a dark horse in terms of third-party information.
But we get just a little closer with this video from Ford of a Mustang GT Coupe barreling up the hay-lined hill. Professional driver Paul Swift (a fitting last name, huh?) takes the wheel of the ‘Stang. Unfortunately, the 5.0-liter’s exhaust is masked by the video’s musical selection. There are a few instances where some burble cuts through, but we’ll wait to reserve judgment on its sound. Then again, Mustangs have always managed to sound amazing, so it’s unlikely we’ll be disappointed.
The video also gives us a good look at the manual transmission’s shifter. It appears to have nice, short throws that are easy to manipulate. We also get a decent look at the interior and its all-new dashboard, and form-fitting Recaro seats.
Sadly, the video is less than a minute long, but there are several good scenes and sequences within. Ford also neglects to publish the Mustang’s time, leaving us to wonder how well it did in what is likely its first-ever public racing event.

If you dig deep into the Mustang’s history and pull up the first generation, you will find that it was actually a mid-model-year addition to Ford’s lineup, which makes it a 1964 1/2 model year. Back then, half-model-year vehicles were not a too rare, like they are today, but it looks as if we are set to see one really soon in the next-gen Mustang.
According to an insider that spoke to the folks over at Mustangs Daily, there will be a limited run of next-generation Mustang’s bearing the 2014 1/2 model year. The insider claims that this is a way for Ford to celebrate the true 50th anniversary of the famed pony car.
According to the report, only 1,000 examples if the 2014 1/2 Mustangs will see production and they will each feature a special VIN and build number to separate them from the 2015 models. With only 1,000 units hitting showrooms at what we assume will be a rather inflated price, this special run of next-gen Mustangs will be an instant collector’s item.
The report also indicates that, despite an anticipated price hike, the 2014 1/2 model will not feature any power upgrades.
If this report proves to be true, then we are likely getting rather close to seeing Ford drop the camo from the Mustang in time to squeeze in for 2014. Stay tuned for more details!

At some point in time, the Shelby Mustang GT500 Convertible will be a collector’s piece that will likely cost a pretty penny, especially if it’s the last ever produced.
But that’s well into the future, probably decades away from now.
At the present time, though, the final 2014 Shelby Mustang GT500 Convertible still commanded plenty of attention at the recent Hot August Nights Auction presented by Barrett-Jackson. The whole auction was a resounding success with total sales numbers eclipsing $14.2 million.
As expected, the biggest contributor to that total was the final 2014 Shelby Mustang GT500 Convertible, accounting for $500,000 when the hammer fell on its auction. That may seem like a steep price to pay for a car that routinely costs at a little over a tenth of the price that this unique model fetched in the auction.
That being said, nobody else can lay claim to owning the last ever produced Shelby Mustang GT500 and besides, as the last of the lot, the winning owner now has the opportunity to completely customize the car to its full bloom.
At some point in the future, this model could very well be worth way more than the half-a-million the winning bidder paid for the right to own it.

The 2013 Shelby GT500 is already the most powerful GT500 ever launched, thanks to its 662-horsepower powerplant. However, the guys over Lethal Performance also worked on making it the fastest GT500 out there.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Lethal Performance take to task on the GT500, as it did so in mid-2012. This is obviously an update, as the comparison between the launch of last year’s model and this model shows a dramatic difference.
The tuner updated the engine with new camshafts and connecting rods, a modified ECU, a new valvetrain, and new oil coolers. The tuner also installed a new exhaust system and a 4-liter Whipple supercharger kit priced at $5,047. The GT500 has also been equipped with a new set of drag-racing-ready wheels with skinnies up front and a fat pair of slick hanging on the back end.
However, the tuner did not reveal any specifications just yet, but the model already scored an astounding result on the quarter mile. The Shelby GT500 by Lethal Performance ran the straight-line track in just 9.3 seconds at a top speed of 147 mph.

Rumors have been swirling since 2011 regarding the Chevrolet SS and we were amongst the first to start discussing it. The rumors cooled off up until a few weeks ago when after 40 years of using the “SS” logo, GM finally decided to trademark it. Later the rumors became even more certain, as OnStar, GM’s in-vehicle communication system, mistakenly put the 2014 model lineup on its site. Within that lineup was a model dubbed the SS Performance.
This all adds up to a solid case that the Chevrolet SS Performance is on its way to the U.S. According to the rumormill, this would also result in the Holden Commodore SS, which was once used as the Pontiac G8, becoming the vehicle that dons the 2014 SS Perfomance badges.
With this release, Chevy would finally have a performance sedan to stack up against the likes of the Charger R/T and the Ford Taurus SHO.
UPDATE 02/16/2013: Chevy has officially unveiled the SS Performance on a in Daytona, FL. We have updated this review with all of the official features and specification.

Back in 1967, the RS Appearance Package for the Chevrolet Camaro included something that has since become one of the more desirable features on classic Camaros: hidden headlights. When you turned on the headlights, the doors opened and when the lights went off, the doors closed, giving the grille a sleek look. Sure they were loud, clucky and malfunctioned after 20,000 miles, but damn they were cool. Well, Forgiato is bringing headlight doors back to the Camaro with its DiFalco Retractable Hidden Headlight Grille.
This isn’t a joke, folks. Forgiato, known more for its fine wheels than anything else, has developed a unique matte-black-finished grille that comes with brushed stainless steel accent trim and shuttered LED-accented headlight covers. In terms of its design the grille really does stand out on its own merit, thanks to a simple black mesh grille insert with the distinctive white “F” Forgiato logo. The grille treatment continues in the lower aperture with black mesh that is trimmed in white.

At the 2011 SEMA Show, Bodie Stroud unveiled a bad-ass 494-cubic-inch-powered 1969 Mustang. Oh, and this is no normal 494 either, but we’ll get to that later. One year later the folks from Unionhz TV, under the direction of Julian King, have created an awesome called “The Real Thing” that presents the story behind this amazing project.
With his project, Bodie Stroud wanted to re-imagine a classic Mustang powered by an extremely rare and powerful engine built specifically for legendary racer Mario Andretti’s 1969 Can Am series race car. This all-aluminum 494-cubic-inch V-8 engine was so powerful that Ford never even attempted to transfer it to its road-going cars.
This movie follows all the steps required to develop this project, starting from the rendering phase all the way through its initial test drive and to its unveiling at the 2011 SEMA. Sit back, enjoy and you will learn about the hard work needed to develop such an amazing muscle car.
What a phenomenal hunk of machinery this thing is. Just wait until you get a listen to it…

It’s perfectly understandable to drool over the Chevrolet COPO Camaro. After all, Chevy will only build 138 models – 69 for the initial batch and another 69 due to huge public demand – so it’s safe to say that only a handful of lucky owners will get the chance to own one.
But if you’re really adamant to have one, you can get the chance to bid for this one-off Inferno Orange Metallic COPO Camaro Convertible that will be auctioned off at the 2013 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction in January to benefit the American Heart Association. However, before that, the car will be in attendance at the 2012 SEMA Auto Show.
There are a number of things to love about this particular COPO Camaro Convertible. For starters, it’s car number 69 and will be the one of only two convertible models built. More importantly, this one will be the only one to be handed to an actual owner because the other model – car number 68 – isn’t planned for public sale.
It’s also the only 2012 COPO Camaro model to be painted in Inferno Orange Metallic with matching custom graphics and a special interior trim. Likewise, only 20 COPO Camaros will carry the unmistakable 327 engine and 4.0-liter supercharger that produces 550 horsepower. This bad boy is one of them.
Jim Campbell, GM U.S. Vice President of Performance Vehicles and Motorsports, understands better than anybody else the exclusivity of this one-off model. “The COPO Camaro program has been a special program and there’s not a better way to close out the 2012 racing season than with the final – and most unique – one of the production run,” he said.
“Chevrolet is proud to once again partner with the American Heart Association at Barrett-Jackson for the sale of this COPO Camaro convertible. It will make a great race car or collector vehicle for a lucky bidder, who will be buying a piece of history.
Charitable cause notwithstanding, you don’t need any more convincing that this 2012 COPO Camaro Convertible is worthy of your bids.
In 2011, Tasca Racing set out to make history by putting together a Cobra Jet tuning package that could establish a quarter mile run in the sevens. They fell a tad bit short, coming in at a still impressive 8.06 seconds at a speed of170 mph. That time alone was enough to make this Cobra Jet the fastest in the world, but Tasca wanted more.
The Tasca team headed back to the track in an attempt to break their own record. During a test session at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida, Tasca’s Cobra Jet not only smashed its own record, but also became the first to break the 8 second barrier: the car ran the quarter mile in 7.96 seconds at a speed of 174 mph. Shortly after establishing the new record, the Tasca Cobra Jet hit the England Dragway where it ran an incredible time of 7.848 seconds at a speed of 174.4 mph.
Making killer cars and breaking serious records, that is what it is all about in the racing and tuning world.
