There was plenty of new and interesting things to climb the famous hill at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this year, but perhaps nothing else hits closer to home than the iconic American pony car in its latest iteration; the 2015 Ford Mustang. With it still months away from hitting dealer showrooms and with no official reviews gracing the glossy pages of magazines or the Interwebz, the Mustang is still a dark horse in terms of third-party information.
But we get just a little closer with this video from Ford of a Mustang GT Coupe barreling up the hay-lined hill. Professional driver Paul Swift (a fitting last name, huh?) takes the wheel of the ‘Stang. Unfortunately, the 5.0-liter’s exhaust is masked by the video’s musical selection. There are a few instances where some burble cuts through, but we’ll wait to reserve judgment on its sound. Then again, Mustangs have always managed to sound amazing, so it’s unlikely we’ll be disappointed.
The video also gives us a good look at the manual transmission’s shifter. It appears to have nice, short throws that are easy to manipulate. We also get a decent look at the interior and its all-new dashboard, and form-fitting Recaro seats.
Sadly, the video is less than a minute long, but there are several good scenes and sequences within. Ford also neglects to publish the Mustang’s time, leaving us to wonder how well it did in what is likely its first-ever public racing event.

We all know that Barrett-Jackson is no stranger to the rarest, meanest and sexiest the automotive world has ever seen, and we know that the auction house is also used to eight- and nine-digit takes at the end of each auction. Well, the 2014 Palm Beach Auction was no different than every other one, as it pulled in a cool $25 million. Sure, that is relatively small by B-J standards, but for Palm Beach, that is a pretty good tally. Surprisingly, there was only one true supercar in the whole lineup this year.
This trumps last year’s $21 million, and makes it the second-largest tally since the massive $32 million B-J did in 2007. In total, there were 509 cars sold, and seven of those cars had their proceeds go to charities. These seven cars netted a total of $2.35 million dollars for their respective charities. All of these totals are well and good, but we are here to talk about the cars that really lit up Barrett-Jackson’s coffers, like the incredible $1,000,000 that the 2015 Corvette Z06 drew in and the nine remaining six-digit totals that make up the top-ten highest sales figures at Palm Beach.

If you dig deep into the Mustang’s history and pull up the first generation, you will find that it was actually a mid-model-year addition to Ford’s lineup, which makes it a 1964 1/2 model year. Back then, half-model-year vehicles were not a too rare, like they are today, but it looks as if we are set to see one really soon in the next-gen Mustang.
According to an insider that spoke to the folks over at Mustangs Daily, there will be a limited run of next-generation Mustang’s bearing the 2014 1/2 model year. The insider claims that this is a way for Ford to celebrate the true 50th anniversary of the famed pony car.
According to the report, only 1,000 examples if the 2014 1/2 Mustangs will see production and they will each feature a special VIN and build number to separate them from the 2015 models. With only 1,000 units hitting showrooms at what we assume will be a rather inflated price, this special run of next-gen Mustangs will be an instant collector’s item.
The report also indicates that, despite an anticipated price hike, the 2014 1/2 model will not feature any power upgrades.
If this report proves to be true, then we are likely getting rather close to seeing Ford drop the camo from the Mustang in time to squeeze in for 2014. Stay tuned for more details!

At the 2011 SEMA Show, Bodie Stroud unveiled a bad-ass 494-cubic-inch-powered 1969 Mustang. Oh, and this is no normal 494 either, but we’ll get to that later. One year later the folks from Unionhz TV, under the direction of Julian King, have created an awesome called “The Real Thing” that presents the story behind this amazing project.
With his project, Bodie Stroud wanted to re-imagine a classic Mustang powered by an extremely rare and powerful engine built specifically for legendary racer Mario Andretti’s 1969 Can Am series race car. This all-aluminum 494-cubic-inch V-8 engine was so powerful that Ford never even attempted to transfer it to its road-going cars.
This movie follows all the steps required to develop this project, starting from the rendering phase all the way through its initial test drive and to its unveiling at the 2011 SEMA. Sit back, enjoy and you will learn about the hard work needed to develop such an amazing muscle car.
What a phenomenal hunk of machinery this thing is. Just wait until you get a listen to it…

The Ford Mustang Boss 302 has only been around for a pair of years now and when it was first released, Ford promised us that it would only have a two-year lifespan. We mostly scoffed at the idea, thinking that Ford would darn sure keep it around if it sold like hotcakes and was profitable. Well, if there’s one thing Ford is good at, it’s keeping promises, as it has announced a slew of changes for the 2014 model year and one of those was bye-bye Boss 302.
So, if you have had your heart set on getting a Boss 302, you had better scrape up the $42,200 buy-in and head out to your closest Ford dealer to pick up a 2013 version — we’re willing to bet that they will go pretty fast. In an inventory search of our local Ford dealerships, we are only coming up with three Boss 302 models available, and it’s likely the same around the country.
Okay, enough with the depressing stuff, as Ford also released other information for the 2014 model year. A pair of new colors will be added to the 2014 Mustang: Oxford White and Ruby Red Metalic with Tinted Clearcoat. With those additions comes the deletion of two similar colors and one Boss 302-specific color: Red Candy Metallic with Tinted Clearcoat, High Performance White, and the Boss 302-exclusive School Bus Yellow.
Exterior Package 101A, which includes that cheap-looking lower tape stripe and a rear deck spoiler, will be axed in 2014. There are, however, two appearance packages that Ford will add to the 2014 Mustang. The first package is the FP6 Appearance Package (541), which includes: painted black outside mirror skull caps, painted black deck lid spoiler, quarter window louvers and 18-inch painted black aluminum wheels. Also added in is the FP8 Appearance Package (542), which boasts the same items as the FP6 Appearance Package, but adds in 19-by-8.5-inch machined aluminum rims.
Though the Boss 302 is going away, the super-high-performance `Stang – the Shelby GT500 – is staying and gaining standard heated seats, and the two new exterior colors that we mentioned earlier.
So there we have it, the last model year before the supposed big 2015 redesign will include the axing of a crowd favorite and some very basic additions. Nothing to get really excited about, but plenty to be sad about.
In 2011, Tasca Racing set out to make history by putting together a Cobra Jet tuning package that could establish a quarter mile run in the sevens. They fell a tad bit short, coming in at a still impressive 8.06 seconds at a speed of170 mph. That time alone was enough to make this Cobra Jet the fastest in the world, but Tasca wanted more.
The Tasca team headed back to the track in an attempt to break their own record. During a test session at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida, Tasca’s Cobra Jet not only smashed its own record, but also became the first to break the 8 second barrier: the car ran the quarter mile in 7.96 seconds at a speed of 174 mph. Shortly after establishing the new record, the Tasca Cobra Jet hit the England Dragway where it ran an incredible time of 7.848 seconds at a speed of 174.4 mph.
Making killer cars and breaking serious records, that is what it is all about in the racing and tuning world.
