Mercedes GLA 45 AMG Concept

Posted on 11.20.2013 17:00 by Simona

Along with the mighty SLS Final Edition, Mercedes is also displaying a bad-ass GLA concept car at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show. Dubbed the GLA 45 AMG Concept car, this sweet compact crossover previews a new high-performance SUV coming from Germany.

The concept is powered by the same AMG 2.0-liter turbocharged engine found in some of its closest relatives, like CLA 45 AMG or A45 AMG. This petite powerhouse puts 360 horsepower and 331 pound-feet of torque into an AMG 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system via an AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT seven-speed sports transmission. This combination teams up to deliver a stellar 0-to-60 mph sprint time of under 5 seconds and a thrifty 33 mpg.

Lest you believe that Mercedes would stop at the engine, it also installed the staple AMG body kit to help give the crossover some aesthetic credentials to go along with its peppy four-pot. This kit includes an AMG front apron with a large front splitter, and large air intakes, a “twin-blade” radiator grille in silver chrome, side sill panels with high-gloss black inserts, and around back, a set of black roof rails and a large rooftop spoiler.

Posted on 11.20.2013 18:00 by Justin Cupler

When Nissan unveiled the new Juke Nismo , it also announced that it was simply the tip of the iceberg for the new Nismo family. We have already seen the GT-R Nismo that followed it, and now a new Sentra Nismo Concept. The concept features the usual Nismo elements, like the more powerful engine, the aerodynamic kit, tuned suspensions and a high performance braking system, red accents all over and, of course, a sporty interior.

The Sentra Nismo Concept rocks a Bright Pearl White exterior paint combined with a carbon fiber pattern on numerous exterior elements and the staple Nismo red line on the front spoiler lip, the side skirts, the rear spoiler and the exterior mirrors.

Scion Simpli-tC by Young Tea

Posted on 11.1.2013 18:00 by Simona

A while ago, Scion announced its usual “Tuner Challenge” competition for the upcoming 2013 SEMA Show. From all the entries the tuner had to select only three winners and each of them received a stock 2014 tC plus $15,000 to design and modify the car within 90 days.

One of these modified cars will be a tC designed and modified by Young Tea, from Alhambra, Calif. His car was built in his personal garage and is suitable both for the track and daily driving.

His “Simpli-tC” concept took a base Scion tC and added an aggressive exterior kit that includes new fenders, a custom dual-outlet exhaust rear diffuser and many more, but it also lowered the car’s ride for a more aggressive look.

He did lots of work under the hood too, but up to this point the specifications figures have been kept a secret. However, we are pretty sure that his car will deliver more than the standard 180 horsepower.

Ford S MAX Concept

Posted on 09.1.2013 06:00 by Kirby Garlitos

Ford’s S-Max MPV is widely regarded as one of the Blue Oval’s most popular and successful models. Back in 2007, it even won the prestigious Car of the Year award in Europe, which goes to show that the reach of the S-Max knows no geography.

Now that the current model is long in the tooth, Ford is ready to unveil a successor at the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show.

Called the S MAX Concept, the vehicle is less of an actual concept than it is a preview of the future production S-Max model. Not that there’s anything wrong with that because one look at the concept and you’re immediately pining for the production version to come out sooner than later.

In addition to adopting the modern global design language of Ford, the S Max Concept also makes use of new some nifty new features from Ford’s SYNC system while also boasting of an interior that should make its customers happy.

Ferrari 458 Speciale

Posted on 08.22.2013 12:30 by Justin Cupler

Since the unveiling of the LaFerrari and F12berlinetta, the 458 Italia has become a little outdated, so to speak. Sure, it still holds plenty of value in the market, but it just feels dated now. Well, at the 2013 Frankfurt International Motor Show in September, Ferrari plans to debut a concept that it based on the 458 to not only bring the model back into light, but to also showcase future technology for the automaker.

Dubbed the Ferrari 458 Speciale, this model takes the impressive performance credentials that the 458 Italia already features and cranks the dial way up. A nice and healthy boost in output partners up with active aerodynamics and traction modifications to make this the most capable Ferrari road car to grace a track. It’s just too bad that this specific model will never make its way to production

So, what can we expect to see from Ferrari in the coming years?

Update 8/22/2013: Ferrari has just released a preview video of this awesome concept. You can see the video above.

Hyundai HCD-14 Genesis Concept to be Displayed at Pebble Beach Concours

Posted on 08.13.2013 14:00 by Simona

Hyundai unveiled the HCD-14 Genesis Concept at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show and now plans to show it one more time at this weekend’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. The concept will be displayed on the Concept Lawn, which brings into focus some of the most innovative concepts of the moment and presents “future automobile development in the context of its gloried past.”

Each year only 20 concepts are accepted for displayed on the Pebble Beach Concept Lawn, so having your vehicle presented there is a huge privilege. Before being accepted onto the lawn, each concept needs to pass rigorous Concours criteria for its overall design propriety and technological significance. Alongside the concept, the automaker needs to bring to the lawn the lead concept designers who will have to talk about the concept and to present their vision of the future automobile’s unlimited potential.

“The HCD-14 speaks powerfully in terms of both premium design trends and advanced driving technologies, making it a perfect fit for the Concept Lawn venue. We’re looking forward to hearing opinions from some of the world’s leading automotive enthusiasts on this ground-breaking concept from Hyundai.”

Video: Jaguar Revisits the C-X75 Concept

At the 2010 Paris Auto Show Jaguar showed off the C-X75 concept car, but we’re pretty sure all of you remember that. As all of you also remember, the C-X75 never made it to production.

To remind us once again what a great car the C-X75 could have been, Jaguar unveiled a new video (above) showing that amazing concept car.

The development of the concept car took over 2 years and the result was the most innovative and technologically advanced prototype ever created. The C-X75 pushes every boundary of power, performance and even fuel efficiency.

It was powered by a 1.6-liter four-cylinder turbocharged and supercharged engine delivering 502 horsepower. Additionally, it featured two electric motors that added another 390 horsepower. With a combined output of 850 horsepower, the C-X75 could sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds and went up to a top speed of 205 mph.

Chevrolet Camaro "Turbo" Concept

Posted on 02.8.2013 13:00 by
Simona

When we thought we had seen it all, Chevy unveiled a rather strange Camaro Coupe at the 2013 Chicago Auto Show in order to promote DreamWorks’ new “Turbo” movie, which is set to arrive on July 19, 2013.

Since “Turbo” will be an animated movie, the new Camaro Turbo has been designed accordingly. It gets lower rockers and fender flares, a front splitter and rear diffuser and a GT concept rear wing spoiler. The concept is painted black with a vinyl chrome wrap, but there are numerous multicolor LED light insertions on the front and rear for an intriguing halo effect. The concept sits on a set of huge wheels, sized 24-inches by 10-inches up front and 24-inches by 15-inches on the rear.

Under the hood, the V-8 engine has been tricked to deliver a monstrous 700 horsepower, thanks to the addition of a supercharger system and a new exhaust system with five-inch-diameter pipes.

Hyundai Veloster JP Edition

Hyundai has certainly tossed plenty of examples into the ring at the 2012 SEMA show and it has just unveiled another concept car. This new custom car sits on the base of a 2013 Hyundai Veloster, but Hyundai brought in famed car tuner, John Pangilinan, to help tweak it just a little bit.

The majority of the work done to this Veloster was to the body, interior, and sound system, which is pretty standard for SEMA. However, this is not to say that John P. and Hyundai just left the Veloster bone stock in the performance realm. This compact 4-door hatchback (three man doors and one hatch) received just enough engine modification to make it stand out and a tiny bit of suspension work to sure of the often-complained-about handling of the otherwise sporty Veloster.

At SEMA, the Veloster is up against the best of the best, however, so let’s have a look to see how Hyundai did with this project.
