Video: Auction Winner Finally Receives His Bolt Gold Nissan GT-R

Posted on 08.31.2013 18:00 by Kirby Garlitos

It may have taken longer than expected, but the auction winnerhttp://www.topspeed.com/cars/car-ne… of the Nissan GT-R Bolt Gold finally saw his prized win in the flesh after the car was officially delivered at a special ceremony held in Melbourne, Australia.

Late last year, the bidder put down an astounding $187,000 bid on the two-off GT-R dedicated to Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt with the funds from the auction going to Bolt’s foundation in his native Jamaica. After months of waiting, including what we imagine to be a lot of waking up wishing to see the car in his garage, the new owner of the GT-R Bolt Gold can finally enjoy the car that he paid a princely sum for.

If we were in his position, we’d understand why the wait would’ve been really excruciating. It’s hard enough to wait months on end while your $187,100 is presumably sitting somewhere without you being able to touch the item that you purchased it for.

But we also understand how exciting it must’ve been to finally lay your eyes on the car you waited for so long to see. And the fact that there are only two models of this car in existence – the other one is with Bolt himself – makes it that much sweeter.

We’re just hoping that the proud owner over there in Australia takes good care of his new pride and joy. You waited so long for it, mate. Better make sure it sticks around with you for a long time too.

Chevrolet SS Performance

Rumors have been swirling since 2011 regarding the Chevrolet SS and we were amongst the first to start discussing it. The rumors cooled off up until a few weeks ago when after 40 years of using the “SS” logo, GM finally decided to trademark it. Later the rumors became even more certain, as OnStar, GM’s in-vehicle communication system, mistakenly put the 2014 model lineup on its site. Within that lineup was a model dubbed the SS Performance.

This all adds up to a solid case that the Chevrolet SS Performance is on its way to the U.S. According to the rumormill, this would also result in the Holden Commodore SS, which was once used as the Pontiac G8, becoming the vehicle that dons the 2014 SS Perfomance badges.

With this release, Chevy would finally have a performance sedan to stack up against the likes of the Charger R/T and the Ford Taurus SHO.

UPDATE 02/16/2013: Chevy has officially unveiled the SS Performance on a in Daytona, FL. We have updated this review with all of the official features and specification.

Holden VF Commodore V8 Supercars Racecar by Holden Racing Team

A few days after Holden officially pulled the covers off of the new VF Commodore, the model’s race car version, the VF Commodore V8 Supercar was also introduced, providing fans of Australia’s V8 Supercar Series a glimpse of what the new model is going to look like before it hits the track this season.

This year, the V8 Supercar Series will race under new “Car of the Future” regulations, which were put into place to make cars more affordable to build and attract more manufacturers to compete in the series.

This particular racecar was built by Holden’s in-house racing team, Holden Racing Team, and carries a few styling cues used in the new VF Commodore, including the trapezoidal gaping front grille. More importantly, those bumpers in the racecar appear to be similar in design to what we’ve seen from the U.S.-bound Chevrolet SS, whose own debut has been scheduled for this coming weekend.

On the flip side, the race version of the VF Commodore will be fitted with a Chevrolet-sourced 5.0-liter V-8 engine that produces 650 horsepower and mates to a sequential gearbox with power sent to the rear wheels. That’s a lot more power than the rumored 350-horsepower, V-8 engine the production VF Commodore may feature.

In any case, the debut of the VF Commodore V8 Supercars Race Car does point to the excitement surrounding the opening of the 2013 season of the V8 Supercars Series at the end of the month.
