Features a variety of upgrades

MR Racing has introduced their new Audi A7 Sportback dubbed “The Blue Wonder.”

Named after its distinctive matte blue wrap, the car has been equipped with an RS7 front bumper and matte black and gold accents. The hatchback also has carbon ceramic brakes, a KW Dynamic Level Control suspension and 20-inch concave wheels with Pirelli P Zero Silver tires.

Interior changes are relatively limited but the tuner has installed a flat-bottomed steering wheel, special floor mats and a rear seat entertainment system with a 15-inch display.

Under the hood, the 3.0-liter TDI engine has been equipped with an optimized ECU which enables it to produce 299 PS (220 kW) and 612 Nm (451 lb-ft) of torque – an increase of 95 PS (70 kW) and 162 Nm (119 lb-ft).

BMW i3 to gain a fuel cell variant – report

BMW i3 to gain a fuel cell variant - report

2014 BMW i3 [10th Oct, 2013] [10th Oct, 2013]

Could use the same system as the 2015 Toyota FCV

When BMW and Toyota announced plans to jointly develop a new sports car, they also confirmed the development of a fuel cell system. The latter news was overshadowed by the Supra rumor mill but new details are starting to emerge about BMW’s fuel cell vehicle.

According to Motoring, BMW will use the hydrogen fuel cell system that recently debuted in the 2015 Toyota FCV. Nothing is official but the system will reportedly be offered in the i3 by 2016.

There’s no word on specifications but the Toyota FCV will accelerate from 0-100 km/h in approximately 10 seconds and have a range of roughly 300 miles (482 km).

Pricing also remains a mystery but it will likely be expensive as the FCV is slated to cost approximately seven million yen ($68,076 /€50,874) in Japan.

Hamilton heads for therapy after Hockenheim

Hamilton heads for therapy after Hockenheim

The Mercedes AMG F1 W05 of Lewis Hamilton (GBR) Mercedes AMG F1 is is recovered back to the pits on the back of a truck after he crashed out of qualifying, 19.07.2014, German Grand Prix, Hockenheim / XPB

Lewis Hamilton is planning a week of physiotherapy following his drive through the field after a hefty qualifying crash at Hockenheim.

Even before the race, the Mercedes driver reportedly had acupuncture, to help with the pain of the 30G smash into the barriers caused by brake failure.

“My knees are no problem,” he said, “but my back and my neck have been the issue really.

“I do need some physiotherapy as my back is in more pain than normal. But I’ll be ok, I’ll get some work done this week.”

Also on the Briton’s agenda will be some therapy to heal his run of bad luck.

He won at Silverstone to peg back championship leader Nico Rosberg’s momentum, but the brake failure was just another black mark against Hamilton’s name as the pair fight for the 2014 title in the dominant W05s.

“Maybe I need to go and visit some Indians, or rub the Buddha belly. I’ll try all the different religions to see if I can get some luck,” Hamilton joked.

But physio and prayers aside, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff thinks Hamilton will need serious treatment in November if he loses out to Rosberg as a result of the Bernie Ecclestone-sponsored ‘double points’ finale in Abu Dhabi.

“It looks like Bernie might be right,” said Wolff after Hockenheim. “The last race is going to be the decisive one.

“I don’t think it’s fair. I don’t think we (F1) should have done it.

“Neither of them will care if they won it that way. But the one who loses on double points will need some psychological treatment,” he smiled.

Will feature a Sport Hybrid SH-AWD system

The highly anticipated 2015 Honda/Acura NSX has been spied undergoing final testing in Germany around the Nürburgring circuit.

Honda has been relatively quiet lately about the long-awaited NSX revival but now we have a fresh batch of spy photos with a camouflaged prototype testing at the ‘Ring, ahead of a full reveal likely to occur before the end of the year since the company has already announced plans to begin production in 2015 at a newly established Performance Manufacturing Center in Ohio where they are investing 70M USD. As a reminder, the 2015 NSX is being developed by Honda R&D Americas in Raymond, Ohio.

The car appears to look virtually the same as the Acura NSX concept shown at last year’s NAIAS in Detroit which itself was a minor revision of a concept exhibited a year earlier at the same venue. It will make use of a three-motor high-performance hybrid system encompassing two electric motors driving the front wheels along with a third motor built into an all-new dual-clutch transmission while a mid-mounted V6 engine will power the rear axle.

Honda has labeled this system as Sport Hybrid Super Handling All Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) and they say it will be capable to provide the NSX reboot with “instant delivery of negative or positive torque to the front wheels during cornering to achieve a new level of driving performance unparalleled by current AWD systems.”

Audi teases a new model for Frankfurt [video]

Could be the 2014 A8 facelift

Audi has released a new teaser video which previews an upcoming model that will be introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

The company didn’t have much to say about the car but the clip shows that it will feature a massive grille and carbon ceramic brakes. That’s not much to go on, but the size of the vehicle suggests it will be the 2014 A8 facelift.

Our spies have already caught on the model on numerous occasions and it has modified bumpers, a revised grille and new exhaust finishers. The 2014 A8 will also come equipped with Matrix LED headlights which use 25 individual diodes to deliver the optimal amount of light regardless of the situation.

The Frankfurt Motor Show kicks off in September, so expect to learn more in the coming weeks.

Toyota committed to body-on-frame SUVs – report

Toyota committed to body-on-frame SUVs - report

2013 Toyota FJ Cruiser 13.9.2012

FJ Cruiser could be dropped

The world has gone crossover crazy, but that hasn’t spelt the end for conventional body-on-frame SUVs.

While their numbers are dwindling, Toyota says body-on-frame SUVs are still relevant as they appeal to a demanding set of customers. As Toyota’s chief engineer for global trucks and SUVs explained, “Some want to drive off-road, some want to tow with their families and some want to commute.” Motoharu Araya went on to say, “Towing and durability are very difficult with a monocoque vehicle.”

Despite being upbeat about body-on-frame SUVs, sales have declined significantly as Toyota only sold 78,457 units of their FJ Cruiser, 4Runner, Sequoia and Land Cruiser in the United States in 2012. This decline has lead to speculation that the FJ Cruiser could be dropped in the near future. Toyota general manager Bill Fay confirmed that possibility with Automotive News but suggested the company would keep the model around as long as there was enough demand.

Volvo C30 Polestar concept tackles the Nurburgring Nordschleife [video]

Features 405 hp (302 kW)

The Volvo C30 ceased production earlier this year, but that hasn’t stopped Polestar from releasing a video that shows the C30 Performance concept tackling the Nürburgring in 2010.

Driven by Scandinavian Touring Car Champion Robert Dahlgren, the clip shows the model battling the green hell in less than pristine conditions. While the company declined to say how long the lap took, the car reportedly accelerates from 0-100 km/h 4.2 seconds.

As we have previously reported, the C30 Performance concept has a 2.5-liter T5 engine which has been equipped with a larger intercooler and a KKK 26 turbocharger. This enables the mill to produce 405 hp (302 kW) and 510 Nm (376 lb-ft) of torque.

The concept also features an aerodynamic body kit, Brembo brakes and Öhlins adjustable shock absorbers. Other highlights include a Haldex all-wheel drive system, Quaife limited slip differentials and 19-inch BBS wheels with Pirelli P Zero tires.
