Companies could sign a bilateral technical arrangement
Honda and McLaren are reportedly considering a broader partnership than their previously announced Formula 1 engine supply deal.
Speaking to Autocar, McLaren F1 boss Martin Whitmarsh said the current deal is a “pure Formula 1 contract but we’ve already been looking at automotive technology and we’re sharing that very openly.” He went on to say “Our road car strategy, at the moment, has no other automotive partner and Honda would be a good place to collaborate.”
Whitmarsh declined to go into specifics but speculation suggests the companies could sign a bilateral technical arrangement which would benefit road-going models from both automakers.
While a broader partnership sounds tantalizing Whitmarsh cautioned any benefits, from the proposed tie-up, would be several years off.
