2015 Hyundai Genesis Coupe to drop the turbocharged four-cylinder engine – report
2014 Hyundai Genesis Coupe
Model will move slightly more upscale
Hyundai Motor Ameriac spokesperson Derek Joyce has confirmed the 2015 Genesis Coupe will no longer be offered with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine.
In an interview with Automotive News, Joyce said the car will now be offered exclusively with a 3.8-liter V6 engine that produces 348 bhp (259 kW) and 295 lb-ft (399 Nm) of torque. This is significantly more powerful than the former base engine which cranked out 274 bhp (204 kW) and 275 lb-ft (372 Nm) of torque.
While fans will undoubtedly miss the lighter and more fuel efficient four-cylinder engine, Joyce said the move will allow them to “reposition the coupe with a more premium performance buyer.” This likely means the base price will shoot up but Joyce noted the packaging and equipment will revised to help offset this.
