2015 Chrysler 200 Convertible render [16th Jan, 2014] / Theophilus Chin
Due to low demand
Chrysler representatives have told Edmunds the Chrysler 200 Convertible and Dodge Avenger will be discontinued.
The new generation of the Chrysler 200 has arrived but apparently there won’t be a cabrio version since in 2013 this derivative accounted for less than five percent of the model’s annual sales. As a consequence, it wouldn’t be feasible to make a new one taking into account the costs that go into engineering this body style.
It also seems the Dodge Avenger will be phased out and as a consequence there will be quite a gap between the Dart and the Charger. A Dodge spokesperson told Edmunds the company’s plans “include moving away from “sister” vehicles to reduce overlapping products in dealer showrooms.” The Avenger will be effectively axed this quarter when production will end.

Arriving next week in Geneva
[update] Video added.
Citroën has released images and preliminary details with the second generation C1 set to be showcased next week at Geneva Motor Show.
Developed alongside the already revealed second-gen Peugeot 108, the new Citroën C1 looks a lot different than its predecessor with a striking front fascia encompassing a rather odd headlight configuration with big rounded lights reminding us of the Nissan Juke. The rest of the car clearly mimics the new 108 and provides the vehicle with a more premium appearance.
The 2014 Citroën C1 is 3.46 meters long, 1.62 meters wide and has a 4.8-meter turning circle. Just like its French counterpart, it will be sold in three- and five-door body styles as well as an open-top with the “Airscape” nameplate (the Peugeot is called 108 TOP!) and a roll-back fabric roof.
It tips the scales at just 840 kg (1,851 lbs) and will be offered with eight exterior paint schemes as well as with a couple of two-tone finishes. Citroën hasn’t released photos of the cabin but expect to find bright colors and body-colored inserts in the door panels along with a seven-inch touchscreen display with Mirror Screen technology to control smartphone apps right from the screen. Other goodies include a reversing camera, hill-start assist and hands-free entry & drive.
Details about engine options have not been disclosed but the French marque says the new C1 will be “shipping with new-generation petrol engines” which will enable the model to be “among the best in class for fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.”
Aside from the 2014 Citroën C1 and Peugeot 108, at the Swiss show we will also see the Japanese counterpart of the French duo, Toyota’s all-new Aygo.
Scania R 520 6×4 Highline cab
Deal would be worth 6.7 billion euros
Volkswagen has resumed their buying spree as the company has offered Scania shareholders approximately €6.7 ($9.2) billion to purchase the rest of the company.
The offer equates to approximately €22.26 ($30.59) a share and represents a healthy 57 percent premium over Scania A-Class shares.
In a statement, Volkswagen Chairman Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn said “With its premium products, its strong market position and its technological expertise, Scania is a core element of the integrated commercial vehicles group that we intend to accomplish under the umbrella of the Volkswagen Group.” He added, “Our offer is designed to create a sustainable and clear ownership structure for Scania. This is a key step towards being able to fully exploit the advantages offered by the integrated commercial vehicles group for everyone involved.”
That’s a little vague but Volkswagen wants the deal to go through so they can more closely align Scania and MAN. As the company explained, the takeover will enable them to avoid “legal restrictions in place to protect the minority shareholders in Scania.”
Scania didn’t have much to say about the bid but the company’s board of directors said they are “not conflicted” with the offer and will have an “initial meeting” about it shortly.
Did the course in 61.1 seconds
Goodwood’s FortyOneSix blog has released a new video of the Alfa Romeo 4C tackling the famous hillclimb.
In the clip, British Touring Car Championship driver Anthony Reid puts the 4C through its paces and completes the circuit in approximately 61.1 seconds. This compares favorability with the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray which completed the same task in 64.3 seconds.
As we have previously reported, the 4C has a turbocharged 1.75-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 240 HP (177 kW) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque. It is connected to a dual-clutch transmission that enables the 895 kg (1973 lb) sports car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.5 seconds and hit a top speed of 258 km/h (160 mph).

Ferrari is named as the strongest brand in the world yet again. Well, that’s for a reason – passion, perseverance and performance. At the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, Ferrari will unveil the 2015 Ferrari California T.
The new California T is powered by a 3855 cc turbo 8-cylinder engine which is mounted very low in the chassis in a mid-front position and delivers 560cv (~552hp) at 7500 rpm and 755 Nm of max torque. With this enormous power, the new sprinting horse sprints from 0 to 100km/h in just 3.6 seconds.
The Ferrari California T will have CCM3 carbon-ceramic braking system which is extremely efficient with new composite discs and pads. The brakes are integrated with the ESP 8.0 premium which controls the high performance ABS for a short 100 to 0 km/h braking distance of just 34 metres.
The 2015 Ferrari California T will be launch with two color options: Rosso California, an intense, deep new red inspired by classic Ferraris, and Blu California, which underscores the versatility and elegance of this new model.
