2015 Chevrolet Impala Bi-Fuel announced [video]
Can run on petrol and CNG
Natural gas vehicle haven’t caught on in the United States but that hasn’t stopped General Motors CEO Dan Akerson from unveiling the 2015 Chevrolet Impala Bi-Fuel at the OPEC Oil Embargo + 40 summit earlier today.
Detailed specifications haven’t been released but the model has a bi-fuel engine that can run on petrol or compressed natural gas (CNG). When the CNG tank it empty, the model “seamlessly” switches to petrol. With both tanks full, the Impala Bi-Fuel will have a combined range of up to 500 miles (805 km). More importantly, in CNG mode, the model will be cheaper to operate and produce fewer greenhouse gas emissions.
According to Akerson, “We know that U.S. energy security won’t come from a one-off moonshot, it will flow from our systematic investment in technology and innovation… our drive to get more from existing energy sources and renewables… our commitment to conservation… and it will be assured by fully and safely exploiting our shale gas reserves.”
