Updated Nissan ZEOD RC breaks cover [videos]

185+ mph top speed

Nissan has revealed an updated and final version of the hybrid-electric ZEOD RC racecar which will compete in next year’s Le Mans 24 Hours.

Earlier this year in June we saw Nissan’s all-new “Garage 56” entry for 2014 Le Mans in the form of a ZEOD RC prototype and now the car has been revealed in final guise. It boasts several design modifications, new cooling inlets and a few aerodynamic updates. The car’s technology represents an evolution of the Leaf Nismo RC and will be the first car to complete a full lap of the 8.5-mile Le Mans track solely on electric power.

Nissan say it will be capable of hitting a top speed of more than 185 mph (300 km/h) and will be faster around Le Mans than a LM GTE car. The driver will have the possibility of choosing between electric power and a turbocharged 1.6-liter lightweight internal combustion gasoline engine which works with a 5-speed paddle-shift gearbox and enables the car to provide an approximate 300 bhp (224 kW) output in hybrid mode.

The ZEOD RC will be used as a test bed by Nissan to develop EV technologies for the firm’s future LMP1 program.

Further details are available in the attached press release.
