CNN completes Washington D.C. – Boston trip in Tesla Model S successfully

‘In the end, I made it — and it wasn’t that hard’

CNN was able to complete the Washington D.C. – Boston trip that a reviewer from the New York Times couldn’t.

During the last few days, Tesla Motors and The New York Times have been at each other’s throats after a reviewer of the latter failed to complete the same trip. CNN decided to see if they can make it from Washington D.C. to Boston without running out of electric power.

While John Broder from The New York Times said he wasn’t informed about Tesla’s instructions to maximize battery power, CNN followed many of them and most of the time the cruise control was set between 60 mph (96 km/h) and 65 mph (104 km/h), while the climate control was set at 72 degrees Fahrenheit (22 degrees Celsius).

A 30-mile (48 km) detour was taken in order to avoid some heavy traffic, but even so after the trip was completed the car had at least a 40-mile (64 km) range left.
