The next-generation of the MINI Cooper will be unveiled this week in Helsinki, Finland.
Automotive News is reporting MINI will present the new Cooper hardtop at a worldwide dealer meeting scheduled for this week in Helsinki, Finland. It will go on sale in March next year and represents the first MINI model built on a BMW platform known as UKL which will have 10-12 compact MINI and BMW front-wheel drive models.
The new car will be a bit larger than the outgoing version and will be powered by a wide array of engines, including a 3-cylinder 1.5-liter generating 128 hp (96 kW) and 148 hp (110 kW) in diesel and gasoline versions. There will also be 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter engines taken from the BMW 1-Series.
The Cooper S is set to receive a new 1.6-liter turbo gasoline unit with 178 hp (132 kW), while in the JCW version it will produce 217 hp (162 kW). A hybrid front-wheel drive version co-developed with PSA Peugeot Citroen is also in the works.
